40 HOUR FAMINE

If you don't already know, I'm doing the World Vision 40 Hour Famine again this year. In fact, I'm currently fasting cooked food for 40 hours, which means I am still eating fruits, yoghurt, milk and such for my basic nutrients. All this that I'm doing is to (hopefully) raise money to help give kids in India their basic human rights and free them from child labour, trafficking and slavery.

I mean, seriously. You know how blessed you are already, given the chance to be using the internet reading this. On the way home from school I was listing out things I can or cannot eat in my mind and it got to the point where I was self-debating whether or not I can take cereal (and Daniel just brought back one whole tub of cereal). For someone like me, I have to think whether or not I can eat such food. The kids in India? Would they even know such food existed? I doubt it.

So, getting back to the point. Just $40 will help 8 children for a whole month. My goal? AT LEAST $480, to help 8 children for at least a year. I hereby ask you of a favour by donating some money. If you can, simply visit the World Vision 40 Hour Famine website and click on Donate Now. Donations are tax deductible and the minimum amount is $2. You will receive a receipt as soon as you've made the donation. When the donation form asks you for the Famine Number, please enter 28197913-8. This makes sure that the donation is recorded against my name and that I'm sent a record of your donation.

WAIT! If you're lazy, just go directly to the donate screen by clicking here!

Your every dollar counts. I hope you can lend a helping hand here. Thanks a lot =).

WELCOME TO KOREA~

Well, no, I didn't go to Korea again (although I'd love to) but I've been eating so much Korean food my not-so-little tummy down there is satisfied. It started last Saturday after service. Every cell went on their own ways so my cell decided to go Young Joe's BUT it wasn't open (I suspect it's closed down, someone please update me) so we went over to Da Chang Jin which was near Famosa. Just 2-3 blocks down I think.

It didn't start off too well with waiters accidentally splashing soup onto me but good thing it was very minimal and they were very apologetic about it. Other than that, everything else went well! You see the small dish second from the white? The brown coloured pieces of things? THEY TASTED LIKE OUR HAWKER FOOD CARROT CAKE (commonly known as cai tao kueh)! We had like three servings of that man.

Don't think you can see but it's actually CHARCOAL beneath this metal plate.

Our sweet soy pork on the BBQ yo!

Our rice before and after rice was added. This was 4 people's portion but it was shared amongst Jasper, Adam and I. We ate like ultimate pigs. SUPER SHIOK! This place has better small dishes as compared to Took Be Gi (YES! I FINALLY REMEMBERED THAT KOREAN RESTAURANT'S NAME!) but variety wise Took Be Gi wins. I'm so going to go back to Da Chang Jin again.

Later that night, a few of them went back earlier to watch the Liverpool match. I went back later so when I got back, I popped by Eufei's place to see if Daniel and Adam needed a lift because Adam sadly pulled his ligement (every dancer's nightmare, same for anything else that rely heavily on leg movements). When we got back...My place converted into a LAN shop! It was counter strike (CS), btw, and guess what! I played too =P. I enjoyed, actually!

Later that night we watched Wall-E. 20 minutes into the movie Daniel went to sleep. Adam dozed off within 45 minutes. I stayed up the whole way through because someone needed to switch the tv off. Sigh what a night =D.

Monday. Was supposed to go Nao Ramen with The Good Friend but it was CLOSED with the boss still inside. We reached on the dot to see them close. Lol. So we went over to Took Be Gi (finally!).Double serving of the brown beans was shiok! We shared seafood pancake, The Good Friend had spicy tofu stew and I had spicy pork. Kimchi added rice is just so good. Although Da Chang Jin has better kimchi but oh wells =D.

Had discipleship group that night, finally after so long. I'm currently in Lynn's discipleship group. The only UWA girl there but hey, I loved it. All dancers, people who appreciate and understand me. Touched on the topic of confidence. Man, nobody robs confidence away from us. We cast our own confidence away from ourselves. Paul de jong is just too good. And hilarious!

Gah. I'm fasting at the moment. You'll know why in a while. In the mean time, be blessed with the ability to eat proper food!

=)

Was reading Sherry Love's blog and chanced upon this! Yes, that girl on top is supposed to look like me. Few of you know this but I do actually wear glasses. Most of the time I wear contact lens because glasses make it feel like something's in the way. But there are times (or rather, once in a blue moon) where I take my glasses out to wear. In fact, I have TWO pairs of glasses.

Some of you might have seen me wearing my white+red glasses lately but actually I have a really dark brown pair of glasses and that's my favourite pair of glasses. It's been with me for a good 4-5 years now and it's the most comfortable pair I've ever owned. It's kinda crooked at the moment and I'll definitely get it fixed when I get back in Singapore.

Oh and the only reasons I'd ever put on my glasses are:
1. My contact lens are not soaked for at least 4 hours.
2. I'm going to do something where contact lens are a danger (eg. swimming).
3. I'm just too lazy (which is VERY rare given that only happened once or maybe twice this year so now you know I wear my contact lens even when I'm at home the whole day and not going out).

For as long as I can remember, there was just my father and me.
Working nights often took its toll on poor Father.
I could never be angry with Father for long.
He knew just what to do to cheer me up.
As I grew older, getting what I wanted became less easy.
This was hard to understand, especially for a younger lady on her first date.
My father was a generous man beyond his means.
But the greatest gift he ever gave me was the gift of love.

Sherry Love showed me this video. It didn't bring tears to my eyes but it made me realise how thankful I am for having someone like Daddy in my life. Being an only child, it's only natural for anyone to think of me as a spoilt brat. I can't deny that. But one thing's for sure, I'm spoilt emotionally and physically, not materially.

I can say I grew up with Daddy. Mummy was most of the time out at work and Daddy was the house-husband.

  • He'd be the one forcing bread down my throat (not physically) while I lay around the sofa pretending I'm eating it.
  • He'd be the one who'd grudgingly play snakes and ladder with me over and OVER again while having the laundry at the back of his mind.
  • He'd be the one playing badminton with me, catching his breath, while I rejoice at my winnings when in actual fact it's because he couldn't catch up with age.
  • He taught me how to ride the bicycle and then suffer weekends of cyclings up and down ECP, pretending to let me reach the end first even though his wheels were twice the size of mine.
  • He sat me down one afternoon at the dining table, with the calender in his arms saying, "Everyday someone bully you, you write down their names here. I'll go to school and beat them up." And being the worried me I never got down to doing it because I didn't want Daddy to get into trouble but I always smiled whenever I thought back at what he said because I realised how much Daddy loved me, to the point he'd say anything to cheer me up without processing the words first in his brain.
  • He never spoils me materially but when he sees what I need he makes sure he gets me the best. Like how I wanted that Canon Ixus 50 I own now when all he wanted to get me was the top quality compact camera and in the end had to buy another Canon 400D to satisfy my passion for photography. How spoilt can I get?
  • He'd be there in the corner of the webcam window waiting for Mummy to finish talking to me so that he'll get the chance to get on to just say a few sentence of kind, concerned words and then start picking on me. Just watching at him smile at me brings a smile to my face.
  • Even up till now, he'd do anything to get me out of bed when he thinks I sleep too much for my own good when I'm back in Singapore for holidays. When I mean anything, I mean literally (yes, literally) pulling me off my bed, watching me fall to the floor, start laughing, realising I'm faking my sleep and then start tickling me.
  • And just for the sake of my education, for his greatest wish (for me to graduate uni), he's still unofficially working up till now, watching the shares day in day out like as though shares is a new found addiction.

He didn't just do all these. He did much more. So much I don't know how to start thanking him. He's more than a Daddy to me. He's like a brother, an ideal boyfriend, a buddy, a punching bag, an ATM, a driver (although I can drive now). But nothing beats knowing he's the Daddy who loves me the most here on Earth.

I love you, Daddy. And I miss you badly.

ps. many thanks to Sherry Love for this post!

SOMETHING INTERESTING

*Daniel rushes out of the house to Eufei's car to go watch Chelsea match*
*Daniel stands outside the door*

Daniel: "Eh I forgot my keys."

*Adam and De Xin sit in the house staring at Daniel*

Daniel: "Can you please open the door and let me in!"

*Adam goes and open the door"
*De Xin laughs away*

Daniel: "What's so funny?!"

GOOD FOOD =)

I tell you I've been eating so much I myself fear for my own health lol. I'll definitely go for some kind of medical check up when I get back to Singapore. Dental and body, everything. To let you guys know how much I really ate, I'll blog about two nights.

On Monday, Adam brought Eufei, Daniel, Sam, Zach and I to Siena's Pizzeria and Cafe with Adam's cousin. It was special nights (Monday - Wednesday nights) so all pizzas and pastas were cheaper.

All of us ordered a plate of pasta each.Adam's linguine pesto prawns. Oooh man. The sauce was SO GOOD. Pasta was al dente! The sauce was just like the pesto I tried in Pastamania when they still had it but BETTER. I missed Pastamania's pesto sauce a lot. Now I know where to go =P.

Zach and I had penne al ponno. I added chilli oil and more cheese. SHIOK! Yep, pasta was al dente. So good!

Adam's cousin had risotto, Daniel had carbonara, Sam and Eufei had spaghetti marinara. I'd say, it's the best substitute for Ciao Italia, given its special nights. Will only go back on special nights. New found treasure.

So on Thursday, Adam and I went to watch Taken (again, for me, heh, I thought it was really good and since it's not shown in Singapore, worth the watch again) but before heading down to Carousel, we had dinner at Conca's!Lasagne! Super overcooked but it satisfied the two hungry souls =P especially after the jog which I didn't manage to go far.

Free garlic bread that came wtih the small extra spicy chilli mussels.

THE STAR OF THE DINNER! The spiciness was totally just right. For me to say that, I guess it had to be really spicy =D. Adam was sweating away!

Small pizza with prawns, anchovies and mushrooms. Yummmm.

Aftermath. Everything finished except for the garlic bread. We only finished 2 out of 5 of them. Took away the remaining three and off we went to Carousel! Where we still had ice cream, bought a box of cookies each to bring home, and I nearly bought a guinea pig but just knew I couldn't. Sigh.

NICE CUPPA

Took a nice break from life this afternoon. Was in Subiaco having my haircut, afterwhich I thought I'd just sit down and have a nice cuppa (coffee). Didn't wanna go Boucla alone (can't wait for Daddy and Mummy to come back and I'll bring them there!) so the nearest option was Cafe Cafe since it was just 2-3 doors down the salon I went.

Their cakes were not home made but since the carrot cake was not in the chiller I thought maybe it was fresher haha. I think they got their cakes from The Cake Factory, where Terrazza gets their cakes as well. So anyways, I got a slice of carrot cake and a cup of long macchiatto with hazelnut syrup.

The cake was indeed fresh, dense but not too dense, just enough for it to be fluffy at the same time. Icing was really buttery. Don't know what's with me and buttery stuff lately but I seem to like them. The icing complimented the cake really well, unlike some places where I ate the cake seperately without the icing 'cos either one of them would taste better. I'm pretty sure the freshness played the biggest part.

Coffee? Let's just say, the syrup was too sweet. So far the ONLY place that doesn't put too much syrup and I can still taste the coffee is The Coffee Club (in Perth). Terrazza and Tiamo both failed me. I really love The Coffee Club's coffee.

Cafe Cafe! (Honestly speaking I wouldn't go back there unless I'm too desperately in need of a cup of coffee.)

UNCLE B'S?

Nah. Why go Uncle Billy's when there are better places to go to? What's worse than going to Uncle Billy's two weeks in a row for the first two weeks of service. Sucks. ANYWAYS. Adam, JeremyL, Liagono, Yiquan, Alicia and I went Pancakes & Grill on James!

For those who don't actually know, Pancakes on The Rocks in Sydney is the SAME as Pancakes at Carillon and Pancakes & Grill on James in Perth. I didn't understand why everyone was going all ga-ga over Pancakes on The Rocks. I just kinda enjoyed the company haha.

My waffles and Adam's BLT burger. Adam, I wonder how you stuffed that down your tummy lol. I loved the waffle. Better than Gelare's anytime. Super duper fragrant! Kinda thin, though. The company meant a lot as well. Yep, things happened all over again. Kinda sucks but oh wells.

WEEE!!!!!!!!!!

I just have to blog about today. Started off with a swim at UWA's pool. Been wanting to swim since AGES but never got my ass down there. Finally got to do so on Tuesday and then again today. As usual, my stamina sucked, but am improving it. Or at least trying to. Interesting thing was this old grandpa came up to me in the pool correcting my freestyle.

If you don't know, my freestyle sucks like nobody's business haha. The last time I swam freestyle in a competition a lifeguard had to come save me 'cos I was catching my breath. Ever since then I refrained from swimming freestyle but I suddenly had the urge to sharpen my freestyle. Was really glad someone dared to correct me.

After the swim and shower (back home), went to pick Adam and Daniel up from school and we went down to the city. Parked at Harbourtown and walked down to city area 'cos the Yellow Cat was taking ages to come. Managed to reach the immigration centre before its closing time but I realised I didn't have the document I needed. Like. SICK! To think UWA was supposed to post it to me.

Mission failed. Totally killed my eagerness to go Ikea so in the end we decided not to. Bought a cup of cappuccino chiller from Icey Ice then walked over to Pier Street for KOREAN FOOD! All three of us hadn't had lunch (and I didn't even have breakfast, only a banana after the swim) so we just had dinner at 4pm lol. We went back to the same Korean restaurant I always go but guess what. I forgot the name again. Gah. I should take a picture of the restaurant name one day.

Anyways, pictures of food!Appetizers. Oooooh those brown coloured beans!

Seafood and vegetable pancake. It's like omelette in a very nice texture. Wonder how they did it.

Daniel's spicy pork bibimbab.

Adam's spicy pork with rice. Nope, different from bibimbab.

My soy rice cake with soy beef! I reckon the rice cakes were cooked too long =(.

Yuuummm!

After dinner we walked back to Harbourtown, bought some (24 bottles!) beer and I got 6 bottles of Strongbow original. Why didn't that old man check my ID! Drove to Adam's place. Picked some mandarin oranges and lemon (hohoho), Adam got the cupcakes he bought, and back to my place!

Adam and I watched Olympics and So You Think You Can Dance (SYTYCD), switching channels here and there. Daniel went over to his friend's place to do tutorial but he said he ended up watching tv as well lol.

CUPCAKES! RARRRRR!Clockwise from heart: Heart (butter cupcake with super buttery icing and milk chocolate on top which is the heart), maltesers, lolipop (???), cocopops.

I took the heart one 'cos I didn't want anything with chocolate icing knowing it'd be SUPER sweet. I loved my cupcake! I liked how it's SUPER buttery. Shiiioook!

Adam took the cocopops one. I didn't like it heh. The cocopops top had dessicated coconut in it (I HATE dessicated coconut unless in cheesecakes) and the chocolate icing was super sweet to the top, as expected. I believe the chocolate cake base was good.

*chompchompchomp* I wasn't eating the paper. Was eating what's left on the paper. Heh. YES I KNOW I'M A PIG.

So good!

I snacked quite abit (Adam will say A LOT and actually I can't deny 'cos it includes sunflower seeds and Korean popcorn), drank a bottle of my Strongbow Original, watched more TV, waited for the American vs Greece basketball match to be on and...yep, I fell asleep. Heh. I guess that's what swimming does to you.

I can't wait for tomorrow, minus the tutorial and lecture. =P

BORING PEOPLE

When boring people go back to Uncle Billy's again *yawn* I go somewhere else! Not alone, of course. With Janice and Rae =). And once again, we're back in Famosa!

Janice and I had minced pork dry noodles.

Rae had curry chicken. Doesn't look like I know but I think the chicken soaked all the curry.

The noodles were just as good as the last time! But where was the egg?!?!?! Gah I just loved the sauce. Oh I forgot to take a picture of the chilli dumplings hehe. Rae's curry chicken was actually really good. The curry was nice and fragrant. More curry please!

UPDATES

UPDATE #1:
For ADAM'S sake, yes, I couldn't find the right parking to the cinema at Garden City and parked at the main shopping centre area, resulting in us running.walking very fast to the cinema, causing those who were in my car and watching Dark Knight to miss the starting. Hohoho. Sorry laaaaa. It was only my second time watching movies at Garden City. Much worse the first time someone else drove me and we had to walk even further.

UPDATE #2:
I drove a Toyota Soarer today!Yes, this is it! This is not the one I drove but it's the same model and the one I drove had WHITE RIMS and belongs to Mark Paps! He even let me try rafting the car while he pressed one button and the car had like some super-turbo power or something. But it was an auto car so I couldn't really compare the power. But the feel was still good =D. Good luck on petrol, Paps =P.

UPDATE #3:
I finally ate at BIBIK CHAN'S!
I didn't take this picture, haha, ripped it off the net. Eufei, Daniel and Adam finished soccer and decided to go there for dinner. I've always wanted to try but no one really wanted to go there with me because on first look people will think it's quite an up-there place.

Surprisingly, the price was totally affordable and their food was good! Except that their curry tasted a bit weird. Either they used different spices or it was just totally not fragrant enough. Their rojak was HEAVENLY! I'm still thinking about it. They just lack of you tiao (fried dough) but it was just so goooood! The peanut sauce melted my heart. Sesame chicken was simple but authentic.

Have I talked about their DESSERT?! They only had two authentic ones. Pulut Hitam and sago. Oooooh both so goooood. With dessert and those three mentioned above, I only paid A$12.20! Those who didn't have dessert only had to pay A$8.20! Value for money to the max!

LOOOOONG OVERDUE

Hey people! Yeah I know I went missing for a few days yadah yadah yadah. I wasn't exactly very busy to the point of exhaustion and neither was I free enough to make an update. But since I'm taking a breather here (can't bring myself to think of what I got to do later on), I might as well make an update!

Two Sundays ago, Mummy had her flight back to Singapore. I dragged her to Sunday service because I thought the service was pretty impactful on Saturday. And after service, we decided to have our lunch at Han's at Reading Cinema but guess what! They're closed. So we moved over to the restaurant next door, Griff's Restaurant. To our horror, it was the worst dining experience we've ever had in Perth.

1) They were under-staffed. For such a huge place, they only had 3 waiters, 1 boss and I don't know about the chefs. Of the 3 waiters, one was slaving away and 2 (females) were slacking 90% of the time at the cashier. Even the boss was more hardworking.
2) As a result of their lack of staff, tables are cleared only when new customers come in. Mummy and I not exluded. We were also not given drinks menus and it was REALLY difficult to get the attention of even those two dumb bums slacking at the cashier.
3)My iced coffee:took 25 minutes to come. So we asked for our food because we were obviously rushing for time because Mummy had a flight to catch and we told them that and they said they were going to check it out for us in the kitchen. True enough, they went in, and came out with no news. We asked the second time and the same thing happened the second time! By the 35th minute I was so pissed I just walked out with Mummy fearfully tagging behind me. Oh, I didn't touch the iced coffee, by the way.

Don't call yourself a restaurant if you're gonna have this kinda service, Griff's Restaurant. Pull up your socks before you lose your sales.

So where did we have our lunch? At the airport.Mummy had red rooster while I ordered pasta and coffee at Breakfast Lunch Dinner (BLD). The pasta was really bland. The beef stew thingy was pretty good so I mixed them together and it turned out nice! Coffee was. Oh-kay.

Sent Mummy off at the gate. Could tell Mummy was holding back her tears. I was more off happy, reliefed, in joy. Not because I don't have anyone at home nagging/controlling me. In fact, she never really nagged (if she did, the nags probably bounced off me) and never controlled where I went. We call that trust =).

I was more happy to forsee the good times my parents are going to have together back in Singapore. They may get quite impatient with each other but I believe them spending more time together will help with their patience and make them more loving. I really love the idea of going home into the arms of a pair of very loving parents. I feel the love already =D.

Past two weeks I've been spending most of my time with my new housemate, Daniel, and other freshies and not forgetting the dance practices =). There was one Tuesday night I skipped dance practice for cell core meeting and then watched movie with a few of the church members. IHeart! By Joel Houston!

It wasn't exactly a movie kinda movie. More of like a documentary of them going around countries to record the IHeart album. I'm looking forward to IHeart 2. A more proper movie. ^^

Went over to Fast Eddy's after the movie for some supper.Shared some pancakes with Adam and I downed two cups of drinks. First was iced tea, second was vanila milkshake. Was really thirsty but I only managed to finish about 80% of my milkshake haha.

Let Adam drive my car 'cos I was really tired and hey! I've found one extra person I can trust my car with. And the funniest thing was we got stopped at a road block and Adam found out he had to actually convert his license. Man. Police, go drink your beer.

Also brought Daniel to Subiaco Fruits Market for the first time with Eufei tagging along. Had lunch there as well. Eufei had the turkish gozleme. Daniel and I ate from the Vietnamese stall. Daniel had some beef ball noodles soup.I had what Mummy always had. Pork and spring rolls rice vermicilli. Ever since Mummy left, I took over quite a bit of her habits. When I was young I always thought Mummy and I wer linked via telepathy. Like I knew where ever she was and what ever she was doing. I think it was 'cos of the lack of time spent with her back then when she was constantly working that I was desperately in need of more time spent with her that made me fake how much I knew Mummy. I'm glad it's all different now =).

We went out for movies with the freshies again just this Tuesday that passed. Before that, each cell had their own dinners. My cell, together with one or two others, had ours at Ipoh Garden along Canning Highway.Ipoh hor fun soup.

Ipoh hor fun dry.

Beef watan hor.

I had the beef watan hor. Basically it just means fried hor fun served with beef in egg sauce. Totally awesome. Sauce and hor fun and everything. Beef could be a bit more tender, though.

At the cinema, a few watched Wanted, a few watched Dark Knight, a few watched some other movies, I (dragging Jim along) watched MAMA MIA! It was a stupid kind of funny. Not the type of movie I'd watch if not on offer. 50% of the time I laughed was 'cos of Jim's reactions lol totally hilarious. Had a great time.

Looking forward to learning more in my new cell. Not comparing cells and I love this cell as much as I loved my previous cell but I really hope I'll get more out of my current one. =)
