FOOD!!!
WOOHOO!!!!! Being home really means FOOD! HA! How can you find good yam paste with gingko nuts in Perth? Or good pork porridge. Or good and healthy soya bean milk. or COFFEEBEAN. Or Grandma's awesome cooking. Or D-U-R-I-A-N-S?!
Haha I touched down on the 24th of June at around 6am. Flight departed late in Perth for about 5-10 minutes but it landed early. Yeah man! Singapore Airlines? DE BEST!
When Daddy came to pick Mummy and I up, Mummy wanted to go straight to the market for some good brekky (breakfast) but Daddy claimed the market wasn't open yet so we went home to unload our luggages, freshen up a bit, and left again for our brekky.
I didn't eat much, though. Ok, I didn't even eat. I only had a cup of soya bean drink because I ate a lot on the plane already. HEY Singapore Airlines serves good food too ok! REALLY! *licks lips*
Parents had a bowl of pork porridge each and they shared a plate of fried carrot cake (the asian style) and another plate of chee cheong fun (pig's intestine noodles, for direct translation). Headed home for some goooood rest after the good brekky.
Went out again at around 11am to SHOP with Mummy in Parkway. We bought HELL LOADS of stuff. Facial stuff alone cost us close to S$600 already. But HEY! It's CHEAP ok! You try coming to Perth and buy the same products. It's not only more expensive just by comparing the numbers but after converting the currencies, it's more than just daylight robbery, I tell you. PLUS PLUS we had millions of free gifts. In Perth? You wait also don't have!
I also bought jeans. We bought a bottle of body lotion (that one also daylight robbery in Perth!). Checked out a few phone prices but I really saw no point in getting a new phone when my n72 is only half a year old. True, my samsung phone is more than a year old already but I just did a skin on it and it's still functionable and it's only in use in Australia. Actually, come to think about it, a year isn't that old either. I'm not planning to get a new phone for at least half a year. Or maybe a year, even.
We shopped and shopped and shopped and finally got tired and decided to have a cuppa coffee at Coffee Bean. Service was terrible. I had a cup of caramel ice blended while Mummy had a cup of iced latte and a plate of pasta. She said it was not bad but she stopped half way saying it's too creamy. Ok la. Three quarter way lar. Haha.
Gave Daddy a ring and he fetched the both of us back home. It was only THEN that I realised I forgot to buy my sports shoes so Daddy suggested we make a trip down to Toa Payoh since we still had some time before we go back to Grandma's place for dinner.
Got home, unloaded shopped goods, washed up AND OFF WE GO TO TOA PAYOH!
We walked and walked and when we finally reached World of Sports, I realised we actually walked one big circle =_=. Not to mention the weather was wikedly hot. And the worse part was, World of Sports didn't have Asics.
ARGH! We went all the way to Toa Payoh, walked nearly half an hour to that shop and they don't have Asics!!!!! To make ourselves feel better, we stopped for some dessert.
I super duper missed my yam paste with ginkgo nuts. I've yet to see any restaurants serving this in Perth. NONE! This place's yam paste wasn't very fragrant but..ah heck! I haven't had that for half a year! What am I complaining for?!
We walked around a bit more because Mummy wanted to look for some stuff. But we still left that place empty handed.
Dinner at Grandma's was really good. I finally had a taste of Grandma's cooking again. Not only that, I noticed a new dish on a table. It was fried chicken pieces with...capsicums and so on. I'm truely amazed by the ability of Grandma's "anyhow cook".
Prior to dinner, we had a mini gift-exchange session. Mummy gave presents away from Australia. The Aunts mainl had instant coffees that cannot be bought in Singapore. Aunt Siew Khim and Aunt Siew Keow had an extra packet of Heaven Chocolate Truffle and Lindt Orange Dessert Chocolate respectively.
The cousins had chocolates but only Samantha was there so I kept the rest and left Theophilus' and Aunt Siew Hong's share at Grandma's house so that they could get them when they come back to Singapore in August.
The ladies (that includes me) gossiped over dinner. Through the gossip, I realised it really takes the death of a siginificant person in the family to see the goods and bads of a family. The passing away of Greatgrandma alone has revealed many good and bad sides of certain people.
Ain't gonna mention names here but it certainly has opened my eyes a lot hey. And it seems like our big family might not come together for Chinese New Year anymore. Only in our respective small families. For example, we will only be going back to Grandma's place for Chinese New Year, and no longer go back to Greatgrandma's place (where Granduncle lives in) together with other Grandaunts with their families. Oh wells.
A few of us (Aunt Siew Khim and hubby, Aunt Siew Luan and hubby, Aunt Siew Hwa, Grandma, Mummy and I) dropped by Germaine's cafe after dinner for some drinks and durian. WOO! DURIANS! I SUPER DUPER MISS THEM! Didn't eat a lot. Maybe about 5 seeds. Ate too much that day already.
Daddy dropped by, too, after his karaoke session. He wanted to pass Germaine some agar agar. OH! I also passed Germaine chocolates for herself, Jojo and Jian En.
When everyone was done, we went home. My first day was spent meaningfully, I have to say. It was great to see how our small little family has come so close together again. And I hope it'll remain this way till forever. =)
On Monday, Mummy and I went to Parkway again to buy my running shoes. I spent a super long time at Royal Sporting House and finally got two pairs. TWO PAIRS OK! ASICS SOME MORE! NOT CHEAP LOR! Sian.
I think my parents are mad. They're forcing me to buy things that are sometimes not necessary. But oh wells. They said, "GST INCREASING LEH! EVERYTHING BUY NOW! NOW!!!"
Right.
Had lunch before we went to buy my shoes, though. Mummy had her bak chor mee (finally, eh, Mummy? =D) while i had ban mee. Woohoo! Food again! And after we bought my shoes, we went over to NTUC 'cos Mummy needed to get some stuff for Daddy.
I'm still greatly disappointed in the varieties in Singapore's supermarket. Given NTUC's size in Marine Parade, I'm very sure they can provide more varieties. In fact, the special offer section is not even necessary. Now I know why shopping in Australia's supermarket alone can settle the presents for many people back home.
After I got home, I washed myself up, got ready, and went out to meet The Good Friend for dinner. Met him at Clark Quay MRT station before going up to Central.
OH OH! Guess who I saw! I saw Kokkie! Ahaha. EH! It IS me lar ok! I wasn't sure if it was you 'cos...I don't know. You looked a bit different from your pictures heh.
So. Central. It's a new shopping centre. WA LAO it's not even officially opened yet (I think) but it has a huge load of shops for you to explore! I'm so gonna go back there again! And again! And again and again and again!
Had dinner at Waraku with The Good Friend, his friend and his friend's girlfriend. We had to wait for half an hour for a seat, though. Took that time to wait for The Good Friend's friend's girlfriend, and SHOP!
Didn't buy anything lar but I was eyeing on this skirt (shut up, I do occassionally wear skirts!) but didn't know if I should get it or not. Sherry! We must go there together one day ok! It's like Plaza Singapura! But bigger! And better!!! I hope they do have a cinema there.
Into the restaurant:
Taken by The Good Friend. Second picture is a reflection of the restaurant plus Boat Quay haha don't freak out.
The Good Friend.
The Good Friend's friend.
What should we eat?
I ordered some ramen in thick soup. The rest ordered sets.
The Good Friend's. There was udon (or was it ramen?), unagi (eel) and rice.
My ramen in thick soup. Look at the smoke!
The Good Friend's friend's set. Udon, beef "hot plate", rice.
The Good Friend's friend's girlfriend's set. Some soup thing with rice. Looks like fish to me. Ok I'm talking baby talk. Gah.
After dinner, we decided to take a walk to the bus stop. Popped by Fullerton because The Good Friend's friend's girlfriend wanted to visit the washroom.
LOOK AT THAT! CAN SOME KIND SOUL BOOK A ROOM FOR ME IN FULLERTON?! THE CHEAPEST IS MORE THAN ENOUGH!!!!!
The Good Friend's shot, my editting. =) Took a nice long stroll to the bus stop. Oh, before we went Fullerton, we popped by Funan for toilet break and The Good Friend's friend's girlfriend picked up a phone in the toilet. The mother of the phone owner actually asked her to keep the phone for the phone owner first. Singaporeans are getting more and more ridiculous. Took bus 196 back. Had another wonderful food day!
On Tuesday, Daddy, Mummy and I went to Thai Village for lunch. Yep, you've guessed it. We had shark's fin. And yep again, I'm guilty of it. Heh.
Appetizers. I still love their acahr the most.
Yum!
We had crab with vermicilli too.
My favourite part of the crab! Pincer! =D I'm quite sure lotsa people's favourite part of a crab is the pincer. After lunch, I got home, washed up, and went out again. Where to? To meet tootface! Met him at Raffles City. Walked over to the Esplanade. I wasn't hungry nor bloated so I let him decide when to eat. He decided o bring me to the Esplanade library haha. Saw the floating platform from the library. Imagine tootface carrying the flag on the platform on NDP! =D When we left the library, he was dead hungry so we went in to the Japanese restaurant at..around...5? Hah! He ordered a set. There were sushi, sashimi and...noodle? Cant remember heh. But I had beef udon. I wasn't hungry! After dinner, we decided to take a walk at Marina Square. Went up to the cinema and decided to watch SURF'S UP! Wooo! The movie was HELL FARNIE MAN! Tootface enjoyed it as well! I'm so glad I didn't miss that movie! After the movie, we went Gloria Jeans. Tootface had tea while I had chai chiller. It's too hot to have flat white in Singapore!!!!! Ohoh we also shared a slice of blueberry cheesecake. While sipping and chewing, the future architect started drawing. First he drew what his Father's Day card for his dad looked like. Then I told him my dream house is a nice little cottage, and he drew a cottage. Then he drew HIS dream house. It was just a sphere because he didn't want to learn integration. Engineers should know why =D.
HAHA! There you go! He drew a better one afterwards but I didn't take a picture of it. It's beside my bed now lol because I keep forgetting to keep it. Oh wells. I'm waiting for tootface to build that house for me ya! =DWhen we left, Simon was saying how the guys outside might be real architects and he'll really lose face and when we walked pass them, they REALLY were architects! We left the above serviettes in the restaurant so he was hoping the architects would find it and build a house out of the designs on the serviettes. HAHA!Went home after that. Had a really great time. Thanks, tootface! =)
Ok. Finally done with this post. So much more to go! =( I'll try my best to keep you guys updated k? Be patient! *smiles*
